Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Birding Tour Morocco from Marrakech
Day 1 — Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Oukaimeden
Your Morocco birdwatching adventure begins with a welcome meeting at your hotel in Marrakech or airport pickup before starting the journey towards the High Atlas Mountains and the famous birding area of Oukaimeden.
This mountain region is one of the best birdwatching sites in Morocco and offers a wonderful introduction to the country’s birdlife.
During the day, we search for several resident and endemic species including:

Day 2 — Marrakech → Ouarzazate → Boumalne Dades
After breakfast, we travel through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains and cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass at more than 2,260 meters above sea level.
This scenic route offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching and landscape photography. We may observe Tristram’s Warbler as well as raptors such as Long-legged Buzzard and Bonelli’s Eagle soaring above the valleys.
Near Amerzgane, we stop to search for the rare Maghreb Wheatear before continuing south towards Boumalne Dades through beautiful desert and oasis scenery.

Day 3 — Boumalne Dades → Tagdilt Track
Today we explore the famous Tagdilt Track, one of Morocco’s top birdwatching locations for desert and steppe species.
The open plains and rocky landscapes attract a remarkable variety of birds including:

- Temminck’s Lark
- Short-toed Lark

Day 4 — Boumalne Dades → Ouarzazate
Today we continue our birdwatching journey towards Ouarzazate through rocky landscapes and open valleys.
During the drive, keep an eye on the skies for impressive raptors including Long-legged Buzzard and Bonelli’s Eagle, along with other birds of prey often seen in the region.
Later, we explore the famous Mansour Eddahbi Barrage, an important wetland area attracting many interesting bird species such as:

In the evening, we arrive in Ouarzazate for dinner and overnight stay in a comfortable local hotel.

As we cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass once again, we will make several stops along the route for birdwatching, photography, and relaxing breaks depending on the conditions and opportunities.
