Detailed Itinerary: 8-Day Morocco Atlas, Sahara & Middle Atlas Birding Tour from Marrakech
Day 1 — Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Oukaimeden
Your Morocco birdwatching adventure begins with a scenic drive from Marrakech into the High Atlas Mountains towards Oukaimeden, one of the country’s most important mountain birding sites.
Along the route, we will look for several resident species including Little Owl, Sardinian Warbler, Spotless Starling, Moroccan Magpie, Moussier’s Redstart, House Bunting, Blue Rock Thrush, and the endemic Levaillant’s Green Woodpecker.
In the mountain landscapes around Oukaimeden, we hope to observe Crimson-winged Finch, Rock Sparrow, Alpine Accentor, Alpine Chough, Black Wheatear, and Atlas Horned Lark.

Day 2 — Atlas Mountains → Ouarzazate → Boumalne Dades
After breakfast, we continue through the beautiful High Atlas Mountains and cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, offering spectacular panoramic views and excellent birding opportunities.
During the journey, we may encounter Tristram’s Warbler as well as impressive raptors including Long-legged Buzzard and Bonelli’s Eagle.
We stop near Amerzgane in search of the rare Maghreb Wheatear before continuing through Skoura and the southern valleys towards Boumalne Dades.

Day 3 — Boumalne Dades → Tagdilt Track
Today we explore the famous Tagdilt Track, one of Morocco’s top birdwatching areas for desert and steppe species.
The open landscapes here attract an impressive variety of birds including:

Day 4 — Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Tinjdad → Merzouga
This morning we travel through the spectacular Todra Gorge, famous for its dramatic cliffs and excellent birdwatching opportunities.

Day 5 — Merzouga → Erg Chebbi Dunes
Today is dedicated to exploring the magnificent dunes of Erg Chebbi, one of the highlights of any birdwatching tour in Morocco.

This relaxed day allows us more time to search for target desert species while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the Sahara. The region offers exceptional opportunities for birdwatching, photography, and observing wildlife in its natural environment.
The changing desert light throughout the day creates spectacular scenery and unforgettable moments for nature lovers and photographers alike.

Day 7 — Merzouga → Errachidia → Tizi N’Talghomt Pass → Midelt
Today we leave the Sahara and travel north through rocky landscapes, cliffs, deep gorges, and mountain roads towards Midelt.
Along the way, we may spot White-crowned Wheatear and possibly Atlas Wheatear depending on conditions.
We stop at Tizi N’Talghomt Pass where we may observe Tristram’s Warbler before continuing towards the high plains near Zaida in search of one of Morocco’s most difficult and sought-after species — the elusive Dupont’s Lark.
Dinner and overnight stay in Midelt.
Day 8 — Midelt → Middle Atlas → Marrakech
On the final day of the tour, we travel through the beautiful Middle Atlas landscapes on our way back to Marrakech.
Depending on timing and conditions, we may stop along the route for additional birdwatching opportunities and scenic breaks before arriving in Marrakech and transferring you to your accommodation or the airport.
